Multimedia and Interactive Performances
Weaving Webs
And what sort of web shall we weave? Threads that tie us together in connection, tangled up together in the web of creation. Part multimedia dance solo performance, part experimental interactive participatory temporary art installation. Let's spin something new together.
Email Julie@CreativeMovesPerformance.com if you are interested in hosting a performance. The full performance requires room for either a 8x8 Pop-up canopy frame with a 10 foot clearance, plus additional floor/performance space. (Let me know what you have available! I'm always up for a challenge/using space creatively.) I have 2 versions: one that runs approximately 45 minutes and one that runs 30 minutes, depending on size of audience. (A short clean up is require after.)
Reactions:
From the Elgin Review: "The sequence of sound, imagery and solo dance lead gently but deliberately into a profound composition of connectedness, first of one body's members, then more. Powerful images of sympathetic vibrations, the self-ness of a home, and the hard work of making and retaining attachments accompany beautiful movement that makes ingenious use of materials."
From The Elgin Walkabout: "Spiders. Some people love them. Some people hate them. But in “Weaving Webs” the part dance, performance art and art installation, the show slowly works its way into your mind and will have you wondering how much we are all connected – for better or worse. A hooky soundtrack plays off colorful visuals and practical props to make for an experience that asks the audience to join in."
Audience reviews from the Fringe Central windows:
"Lovely show. Lyrical dance that involves the audience in just the right measure."
"Beautiful. Thought-provoking and peaceful. Get involved in this show!

Shell
People sometimes make an awfully big fuss about
“Coming out of your shell.” But let's slow down just for a moment. Where do you feel safe? And what does home mean to you? You are invited. Come and play. Email Julie@CreativeMovesPerformance.com if you would be interested in hosting a performance. Run time is a flexible thirty to forty five minutes. (Ideally there is some time after for the audience to enjoy the space we have created together.) A special shared and interactive experience, unique to each audience.

Shedding Skin
"Can we ever truly leave who we were behind?
What do we leave behind when we move on?
What do we continue to carry with us as we grow?
An exploration of transformation, a moving meditation on change.

An exploration of transformation, a moving meditation on change.
Email me at Julie@CreativeMovesPerformance.com if you would be interested in hosting a performance. The piece works best in a small, intimate space, with a blank back wall for projections, and runs approximately 40-45 minutes.

Creative Moves at Elgin Fringe Festival from The Elgin Review
"'Shedding Skin' is a thoughtful and technically ingenious meditation whose language is clear and poetic, and execution is simultaneously elegant and visceral."
From @FringeBiscuit: "Shedding Skin. This innovative performance art by @CMovesDance investigates transition & metamorphosis through compelling, earthy dance."
From Pittsburgh in the Round:

"Serious, and slow in tone, the intimacy of the work was its greatest charm. Leir-Vansickle started dancing without any formal announcement that was about to begin and concluded the work by confusing all in attendance by simply leaving the room. In between these two events, there were some moments where the dancer was simply lost in the dance, colliding between jarring violent rhythms and more graceful patterns. If this is what interpretive dance is, I’m going to have to look into this form much further because this was an engaging act."

The dance is captivating, at times reminiscent of the controlled movements of yoga, but other times languid and sinewy like the coils of a snake, or open and joyful like a crane in flight. The lone performer commits to the dance she has created which commands the audience’s attention, and while the sense of story is blurry here and there, we are left with no doubts about what we have observed together. After all, it is an outward show of something we have all experienced; we need no words.
From audience members:
"Visually stunning and beautiful! Thank you!"
"It was very therapeutic!"
"Creepy, awesome, mesmerizing!"
